If you have previously borrowed student loans under one of the U.S.
Federal loan programs you are eligible to defer repayment while
you are enrolled at the Yale School of Management. Since interest
continues to accrue on unsubsidized Stafford loans while repayment
is deferred, you may wish to continue to make interest payments
if you have borrowed under this program.
Contact your loan servicer and request the forms for loan deferment
on the basis of full-time student status.
- Deferments begin with the first day of classes.
- Some servicers will grant deferment for the whole two-year period,
others may require that you request deferment on a semester-by-semester
or year-by-year basis.
- Ask about policies regarding the period June-August when the
Yale School of Management is not in session. You may need to request
a forbearance for the summer months in order not to have to make
payments during that time.
Submit your deferment forms to Patricia Golebiewski, Assistant
Registrar, in the Office of Student and Academic Services.
- We send the completed deferment forms to the National Student
Loan Clearinghouse (NSLC), which in turn notifies the servicer
that you are eligible for the deferment.
- The loan servicers will not process deferments until you have
registered for the fall semester and they receive verification
through the National Student Loan Clearinghouse that you are enrolled,
registered, and therefore eligible for the deferment.
- The University sends an enrollment verification report to the
NSLC (our certification alone is not sufficient!). These reports
are submitted to the NSLC electronically several times during
each academic year.
