GENERAL MOTORS ROOM - GUIDELINES FOR USE

Room Description
The General Motors Room (GM Room) is located in Horchow Hall, 55 Hillhouse Avenue. The building houses the School of Management Admissions Visitors Center and faculty office space. The GM Room accommodates up to 100 people for School of Management (SOM) events. An oval conservatory overlooking an enclosed yard is attached to the room.

Reservation Procedures
The GM Room is only available for SOM events. Reservation requests may be submitted by using the online Rooms @ SOM . As part of your request, you must include the name and contact information of your service providers: catering, furniture rental and audiovisual. Yale Custodial Services must be used if any alteration of the room's normal theater style setup is needed and for post-event cleanup. As part of your planning, you must contact Georgetta Sheppard (203.432.6511) the custodial supervisor, to discuss your event and any special setup required. If necessary, provide Georgetta with a Request for Services form.

Food and Catering
The school maintains a list of caterers approved to provide food service at the School of Management. Please use Yale Catering Services or any of the caterers on the Frequently Used Caterer's List. Caterers must provide tables and chairs for sit-down meals. For SOM events, please contact the Business Office to coordinate payments to caterers and other service providers. Please complete a Request for Services form if using Yale Catering.

  • Red wine may not be served.
  • Keg beer is prohibited.
  • Yale Custodial Services must be used for all setup and cleanup. A Request for Services form must be submitted to the Business Office at least five business days in advance.
  • The caterer must remove all rented furniture and catering equipment immediately following an event.
  • Buffet food service and bar service must be set up in the conservatory.
  • Trained bartenders are required if alcohol is served.
  • Purchase of a temporary liquor permit, at the event sponsor's expense, may be required if hard liquor is sold or there is an entrance fee associated with the event.
Custodial Services

A Request for Services form must be submitted at least five business days in advance for any special room setup that requires furniture moving. A service fee may be assessed for room setup and cleanup. Use of Yale Custodial Services is required.

Other Requirements
  • Smoking is not permitted inside any Yale School of Management buildings.
  • SOM facilities or administrative staff cannot act as a contact person for event deliveries. Please have someone from your department or event committee available to receive and sign for deliveries.
  • For security purposes, all event participants must wear name tags identifying the meeting they are attending at SOM. The tag must be worn at all times. The cost of the name tags is the expense of the event organizer.
