When B-74 is not being used as a classroom and/or for research,
it needs to be available to meet the needs of as many members of
the community as possible. Therefore, people using B-74 for study
space and TA sessions should share the space. While TA's can reserve
the space for TA sessions, they must share it with students who
want to use the computers. Please follow these guidelines:
- B-74 is not available for TA sessions or lab use while classes or
faculty research is in session.
- If you are a TA, please share the room by using the front of the
room for your session, permitting others to use the back of the
room.
- If you are a lab user, please realize that a TA session might be
going on in the front of the room, so be courteous in your use of
the space.
- When the B-39 computer lab (near IT) is being used for a training
class, the IT Group will book B-74 for lab use only -- TA sessions
cannot be booked during this time.
- Food and/or drink is prohibited in this room at all times.
Conflict has arisen over the use of B-74 when it is not used for
classes or research sessions. the IT Policy Committee has arrived
at the above policy, which recommends compromise among all parties
to maximize the use of this important resource.
So that it is clear that a class is in session and that B-74 is not
available for open lab use, it is strongly recommended that faculty
or TAs/RAs post the "Class or Research in Session - Do not Disturb"
signs found in the lectern at the front of the room. The sign should
be posted in the message holder under the door sign for B-74 at the
beginning of each class/research session and removed at the end of
the session so that it is clear to lab users when B-74 is available
for open lab use. In addition, the class schedule for B-74 is posted
outside the door so that anyone unsure whether the group in the room
is a formal class may check the schedule and enter accordingly.
